Apply to be a 2025 Community Ambassador by January 24!

Don’t miss out on the chance to join our teen writing community and volunteer as a Community Ambassador (CA)—a key position in our youth leadership network! In this five-month role, you’ll play a pivotal part as a writer, editor, and leader on the Write the World (WtW) site by providing feedback on Write the World programming, writing peer reviews, creating prompts, publishing exemplar responses, and interacting with other young writers (ages 13-19) from across the globe. This is a wonderful way to share your voice and perspective, develop leadership experience, and mentor other young writers. (Plus, it’s a great way to boost your resume for college and beyond!).

Read on to get all the details and learn how to apply for this exciting opportunity.

WHAT COMMUNITY AMBASSADORS DO:

The Ambassadorship runs from February to June 2025, with a weekly commitment of approximately two hours. Ambassadors of our teen writing community will:

  • Attend five training meetings in 2025 with WtW mentors and other CAs from around the world on February 8th, March 1st, April 5th, May 3rd, and June 7th.  [Please note that due to our geographic diversity, Zoom meetings may be late at night or early in the morning. Additionally, to support a lively and productive experience, we ask all CAs to participate verbally during synchronous meetings and to use both audio and video in Zoom unless a previous agreement has been made].
  • Give 3 WtW teen writers a thoughtful and supportive peer review each week
  • Create an original prompt for WtW writers to respond to
  • Encourage and motivate WtW writers by commenting on five newly published pieces each week
  • Write 4–5 example responses to prompts in a variety of genres
  • Be featured on our social media platform
  • Provide valuable feedback and ideas on the Write the World site
BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATING AS A COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR:
  • Express your culture, background, and experiences through writing and peer reviews
  • Gain a sense of responsibility and camaraderie within a community of teen writers
  • Enrich your writer’s voice by providing feedback to site users and receiving feedback from mentors and peers
  • Fortify your skills as an editor and peer reviewer
  • Learn how to write creative, authentic prompts that will appeal to the Write the World audience and support the next generation of young writers
  • Expand your portfolio and resumé for college applications
  • Become eligible for a certificate of completion and the option of a reference letter written by Write the World staff, upon satisfactory completion of all CA responsibilities
WHAT FORMER COMMUNITY AMBASSADORS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE:
  • "I genuinely enjoyed giving other writers feedback and sharing my knowledge and personal techniques. Writing peer reviews benefited me as well, as I got to pick up on different styles, read different genres, and become a well-rounded writer." - Jenna (US)
  • "What I loved most was the freedom to bring my heart to the table, to give feedback and encouragement that felt deeply personal and real. The way we’re encouraged to uplift each other makes it feel like a family, like I’m part of something that genuinely celebrates each writer's journey." - Sejal (India)
  • Writing exemplars was an amazing experience. It allowed me to try other genres, and I really want to continue to do that. I also love writing thoughtful reviews. I am excited to provide insightful feedback on other’s pieces that can help them. I love helping people, and I am glad I found another way to do so." - Mahati (US)

WHAT DO WE CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING COMMUNITY AMBASSADORS?

Some of the things we consider when choosing CAs are:

  • The quality and amount of reviews the applicant has written
  • The applicant’s demonstrated commitment to being a supportive and positive member of the WtW community—as a writer, reviewer, and commenter
  • The care taken with the application (for instance, is it free of errors? Is the writing thoughtful?)
  • The applicant’s efforts to follow WtW writing guidelines and, when appropriate, their demonstration of a respectful and professional communication style with WtW staff members and site moderators

We welcome applications from all young writers who meet the above criteria, and we strive to assemble CA cohorts who reflect the global diversity of our writing community. If you’ve applied before but have not been selected, we definitely encourage you to apply again!
